About the Role

As a Senior Roku Developer (BrightScript/SceneGraph), you’ll lead the development of high-performing Roku streaming experiences—building and optimizing core features like ads (CSAI/SSAI), video playback (VOD/Live), DRM, authentication, and analytics—while ensuring scalability, maintainability, and Roku certification readiness. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering partners to deliver features within the platform’s unique constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain Roku applications using BrightScript/SceneGraph
  • Implement and enhance video playback for Live/VOD, including DRM integration and custom player UI
  • Build and maintain ad experiences, including CSAI/SSAI (pre-roll/mid-roll) using Roku Advertising Framework (RAF)
  • Design scalable UI patterns, including complex lists (e.g., TimeGrid, RowList, MarkupList)
  • Implement and support authentication flows (e.g., On-Device Auth, Automatic Account Linking, Rendezvous linking)
  • Instrument and maintain analytics (e.g., NPAW, Google Analytics) and Roku Beacons
  • Optimize performance and stability with an understanding of SceneGraph architecture and Roku limitations
  • Participate in code reviews; uphold best practices, readability, and maintainable patterns
  • Debug and resolve issues across development and testing cycles; support release readiness
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decisions; mentor junior engineers
  • Other duties as assigned

About You

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including significant Roku/SceneGraph development at a senior level
  • Deep knowledge of SceneGraph render thread vs. BrightScript main thread
  • Strong understanding of component lifecycle and observeField/unobserveField patterns (including observer GC behavior)
  • Proven experience with CSAI/SSAI ad implementations using RAF
  • Hands-on expertise in DRM-enabled video playback and custom Roku player UI for Live/VOD
  • Extensive experience building complex SceneGraph list-based UIs (e.g., TimeGrid, RowList, MarkupList)
  • Experience with Roku Beacons
  • Strong background implementing authentication flows: ODA, AAL, Rendezvous linking
  • Experience implementing analytics (e.g., NPAW, GA)
  • Familiarity with BrighterScript and related libraries
  • Effective collaboration in Agile teams; able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong ownership mindset; able to work independently and deliver reliably in a cross-functional environment
