Role Overview

As the Creative Director, you will lead the creative vision for one of the world’s most respected brands. Based in Tokyo, you will be the bridge between the clients local design philosophy and Monks’ global network of makers, coders, and AI specialists.

You aren't just directing "ads"; you are directing a global ecosystem of digital assets—from high-fidelity virtual production and generative AI content to interactive platform experiences. You will lead a borderless creative team, ensuring that every asset, whether produced in Buenos Aires, Hilversum, or Los Angeles is aligned to the clients brand. 

Key Responsibilities

1. AI-Driven Creative Innovation

  • Maximize AI Workflows: Lead the implementation of Generative AI tools (Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and proprietary Monks tools) to accelerate asset creation without sacrificing brand integrity.
  • Virtual & Real-time Production: Oversee the creation of high-end 3D/CGI assets and virtual photography, reducing the need for traditional shoots while increasing output volume.
  • Future-Proofing: Continuously experiment with new tech to keep Monks at the forefront of the "Software Defined Mobility" era.

2. Global Creative Orchestration

  • Borderless Leadership: Direct diverse creative teams across the globe, ensuring a "follow-the-sun" production model where creative quality remains world-class 24/7.
  • Asset Scalability: Design creative frameworks that allow for massive scale—ensuring a global campaign concept can be localized into 50+ markets efficiently through smart templating and AI-assisted versioning.
  • Quality Control: Maintain an uncompromising eye for detail, ensuring that global output respects the subtle nuances of the clients visual identity and local cultural sensibilities.

3. Client Representation & Strategic Storytelling

  • The Face of Monks Creative: Act as the primary creative partner for the clients marketing and R&D teams in Japan. You must be able to present complex, tech-forward ideas with clarity and passion.
  • Brand Translation: Translate the clients philosophy into modern digital narratives that resonate with younger, tech-savvy global audiences.
  • Consultative Approach: Guide the client through the transition from traditional production models to AI-integrated workflows, building trust through transparency and excellence.

The Ideal Profile

  • 10+ years of creative leadership, with a portfolio that shows a mix of "Big Idea" thinking and high-end digital execution.
  • Strong experience using AI in your daily workflow. You understand how to prompt, how to train models on brand styles, and how to use AI to augment human creativity.
  • Deep understanding of automotive aesthetics—lighting, movement, and the "heroic" nature of vehicle cinematography—is a massive plus.
  • You are fluent in Japanese and English. You can navigate a boardroom in Aoyama just as easily as a Discord brainstorming session with a 3D artist in Berlin.
  • You are comfortable discussing Unreal Engine, Unity, and API integrations alongside color palettes and typography.
  • Experience working across automotive and tech clients is highly preferable
