About the role

Monks is looking for a backend developer to drive the evolution of our proprietary central orchestration engine. Based on your knowledge in PHP, you will be a key member of the team, designing, coding, testing, and supporting applications that enable businesses to operate more effectively and competitively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain server-side logic using PHP, ensuring high performance, responsiveness, and reliability.
  • Evolve internal management frameworks to meet adapting business requirements and sunset legacy systems.
  • Build and maintain complex bi-directional syncs across the enterprise stack (Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, and other internal proprietary developed tools) to ensure a flawless data exchange.
  • Design and implement APIs and RESTful services that adhere to industry standards.
  • Work with databases, including setup, maintenance, and optimization to ensure "One Source of Truth" across project data.
  • Identify and resolve bugs, bottlenecks, and ensure the 100% stability of critical internal tooling.
  • Write clean, scalable, and effectively commented code following best practices.
  • Focus on reducing "gap time friction" and automating manual workflows to accelerate business velocity.
  • Integrate AI-driven features like agentic workflows to automate workflows.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including technical specifications and API documentation.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of professional backend development experience (PHP is a must), with a focus on modern frameworks and design patterns.
  • Extensive knowledge of Symfony.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, application design patterns, and analysis.
  • Proven experience in Web Services, REST API design, and integrating third-party APIs (e.g., OAuth).
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization/virtualization like Docker.
  • Curiosity-First Mindset: You don't wait for a manual; you play, break things, and ask "What if?" to adopt new tools and workflows
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience working effectively in an agile development environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with database technologies such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Git version control.
  • Familiarity with security principles and best practices in web application development.
  • Secondary proficiency in other programming languages (e.g., NodeJS, Python, or TypeScript) is highly valued.

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with ERP integrations like NetSuite or Salesforce
  • Experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of front-end technologies like ReactJS and Next.js is a plus.

At Monks, we believe in fostering an environment where a diversity of perspectives can thrive. We proactively work to design hiring processes that promote equity and inclusion while mitigating bias. We celebrate diversity and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve.
