Lead Engineer

About the Role
As a Lead Engineer, you’ll own the technical vision and execution for a greenfield AI document processing and case management project, serving as the primary engineering partner for the client while guiding a talented team to deliver a robust, scalable solution.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the end-to-end technical architecture of the system, making key decisions in collaboration with the engineering team
- Serve as the primary technical partner for the client, leading technical discussions, managing expectations, and ensuring the solution aligns with their goals
- Translate complex business requirements into a concrete technical roadmap, system design, and actionable goals for the team
- Guide engineers through pragmatic technical decision-making, mentorship, and clear communication of complex topics
- Contribute hands-on to the most critical and architecturally significant parts of the system, balancing high-level solutioning with direct coding
- Ensure the technical quality, feasibility, scalability, and integrity of engineering deliverables from concept through delivery
- Collaborate with Engineering Managers and client stakeholders to align on timelines, scope, trade-offs, and technical feasibility
- Manage technical debt strategically, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability and quality

About You
Qualifications & Skills
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a clear progression into technical leadership
- Proven experience architecting and leading the development of complex, data-centric software systems from the ground up
- Exceptional client-facing skills, with the ability to build trust, manage expectations, and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Deep technical expertise and the ability to earn the confidence of skilled engineering teams through sound judgment and technical gravitas
- Strong pragmatic decision-making skills, with a track record of balancing technical excellence, project constraints, and business objectives
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies, domains, and tools to solve complex problems effectively
- Experience providing technical feasibility analysis to inform project scope, planning, and delivery timelines
- Experience working with documents, data pipelines, enterprise back-office tooling, AI/ML systems, or complex data pipeline domains is a plus
- Hands-on expertise with Python and its ecosystem in a data-intensive environment is a plus
- Consulting experience or experience in a heavily client-facing technical role is a plus
- Experience participating in technical interviewing or hiring processes is a plus
