Lead Engineer

A pragmatic technical lead, bridging client goals with engineering reality

As part of our commitment to inclusion and in compliance with Law 2466 of 2025 from Colombia, we have available spaces for people with disabilities.

Role Overview

The Lead Engineer will own the technical vision and execution for a greenfield project involving AI document processing and case management. This role is for a leader with deep technical gravitas who acts as the primary engineering point of contact for our client. You are responsible for translating ambitious client needs into a feasible, robust, and scalable architecture, and then guiding a talented team to build it. This is a hands-on technical leadership position that requires a pragmatic balance between architectural design, client consultation, team mentorship, and direct technical contribution. You will be the authority on what is possible, ensuring the quality and integrity of the technical solution from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Ownership: Own and drive the end-to-end technical architecture of the system, making key decisions in collaboration with the team.
  • Client Leadership: Serve as the primary technical partner for the client, leading technical discussions, managing expectations, and ensuring the solution aligns perfectly with their goals.
  • Technical Strategy: Translate complex business requirements into a concrete technical roadmap, system design, and actionable goals for the team.
  • Team Guidance: Lead the team through technical gravitas and pragmatic decision-making, providing mentorship and breaking down complex topics into digestible components.
  • Hands-On Contribution: Fluctuate between high-level solutioning and hands-on coding, contributing directly to the most critical and architecturally significant parts of the system.
  • Quality & Delivery: Hold ultimate accountability for the technical quality and success of the engineering deliverables, providing feasibility input to the Engineering Manager to align on timelines.
  • Technical Debt: Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and client to strategically manage technical debt and make informed trade-offs between speed and long-term quality.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a clear progression into technical leadership.
  • Proven experience architecting and leading the development of complex, data-centric software systems from the ground up.
  • Exceptional client-facing skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, manage expectations, and communicate complex technical subjects to diverse stakeholders.
  • Technical Gravitas: The deep and respected technical expertise required to guide and gain the confidence of a team of skilled engineers.
  • A Pragmatic Mindset: A history of making sound, practical decisions that balance technical excellence with project constraints and business objectives.
  • A Polymath's Curiosity: You are a fast learner who is not defined by a single technology, with a track record of quickly mastering new skills to solve the problem at hand.
  • Experience in providing technical feasibility analysis to inform project scope and planning.

Bonus Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working with documents, data pipelines, or other enterprise backoffice tooling.
  • Previous experience leading projects in the AI/ML or complex data pipeline domains.
  • Hands-on expertise with Python and its ecosystem in a data-intensive environment.
  • A background that includes consulting or a similar, heavily client-facing role.
  • Experience participating in the interview and hiring process for technical talent.
