About the Role

Lead product designers are pivotal in driving complex design projects with high levels of complexity and ambiguity. They understand the vision, oversee the design process, shape the user experience, and drive the product's success through strategic design thinking, leadership, mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, hands-on design work, and deep knowledge of user needs, business goals and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Thinking and Delivery

    • Shape program design strategy: Define a clear design strategy that effectively addresses user needs, business goals, and market trends despite high levels of ambiguity.
    • Overseeing design deliverables: Ensure design deliverables meet high-quality standards, usability, and functionality, conduct thorough reviews, and provide guidance as needed.
    • Support program expansion and extension: Work with managers and program leaders to develop proposals, deliver compelling presentations that underscore value, and drive the program's growth and success.
    • Resource delegation: Manage the design team's resources effectively, allocating designers based on project priorities, PTO, and strategic objectives.
    • Actively contribute to deliverables: A blend of leadership skills and design expertise. Work as an individual contributor dedicated to a squad. Cover your design team's PTO and gaps in the program as required.

    Team and Client Collaboration

    • Build strategic relationships: Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and effectively communicate design decisions, rationale, and outcomes to gain buy-in and support.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to our clients: Provide insight and guidance, serving as the primary point of contact for design-related inquiries, updates, and decisions. Communicate effectively and self-sufficiently with client stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and transparency.
    • Participate in hiring and onboarding: Work closely with design hiring managers to confidently evaluate candidates based on project requirements and fit. Create program onboarding materials and guide new joiners through the Foundry's onboarding process.
    • Promote cross-functional collaboration: Help establish close relationships with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, to ensure alignment and support throughout the design process.

    Leadership, Coaching, and Mentorship

    • Drive innovation and excellence: Provide targeted, individualized feedback, guidance, and mentorship, set high standards for quality and innovation, unblock potential problems, and ensure we deliver the best solution.
    • Maintain a positive and productive team: Set a clear north star for positivity. When faced with adversity, lead with unwavering optimism and rally your team when necessary instead of negatively impacting morale.
    • Supporting continuous improvement: Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design tools to improve design processes and deliverables. Encourage a culture of experimentation and learning within the design team.
    • Evangelize leadership in design culture: Champion a strong organizational design culture that prioritizes design excellence, design thinking, user-centered design principles, and the importance of design in creating successful products.
