Credibility, Not Celebrity • Strategic B2B Brand Repositioning
Uncovering a B2B Powerhouse Through Tech Brand Marketing
Despite Capital One's decade of investments in cloud infrastructure, proprietary AI, and deep operational expertise, the bank was rarely taken seriously as technology leaders by elite engineers and enterprise software buyers. While our partnership with Capital One began at ground level, creating performance marketing templates for Meta and LinkedIn campaigns, our scope expanded to help them solve this core perception challenge. We went straight to the source, interviewing Capital One engineers who build solutions for 100 million customers and world-class software partners, leaning into their culture of individual ownership at scale to construct an authentic tech brand marketing strategy.
Building a Brand That Speaks to Engineers
We helped develop the brand as a living system—one that flexed into the signature simplicity at Capital One's consumer core and activated the technical rigor that had defined the company since its founding. We took the enterprise's foundational brand identity and expanded it, stretching a consumer banking brand to resonate with a technical audience without losing what made it recognizable.
We gave that expansion personality through That's How We Stack, a creative platform that brought Capital One's signature comedy into the developer's world. We launched it at AWS re:Invent, the world's largest cloud computing conference and the natural home for the only major bank to go all-in on AWS cloud. Capital One became the third most-recalled brand at the event. Engineers then fronted national digital out-of-home and social campaigns, their work serving as proof of a culture and infrastructure most people didn't know existed. From there, the platform expanded into emerging global tech hubs in Mexico City and Toronto, bringing the brand into markets where the next generation of technical talent is being shaped.

Turning AirKey Into a Product the Industry Could Buy
For enterprise software buyers, we helped the brand show up in a compelling and consistently big way, in the places technologists gather—RSA Conference (the world's largest cybersecurity event), the Snowflake Summit, and Databricks Data + AI Summit—with a brand system built to signal peer-level credibility in the rooms where platform decisions get made.
Then the partnership reached a new level entirely. AirKey had been powering Capital One's own authentication infrastructure for nearly a decade. Battle-tested and bank-native, it was ready to be unleashed on the market. We built everything needed to get it there: brand identity, go-to-market strategy, web design, and 360 campaigns. A technology Capital One had built for itself became a product the industry could buy.
Changing How the Industry Sees a Bank
The results reflect a brand that has fundamentally changed how it's seen. Capital One now leads every financial services competitor across every major measure of tech brand equity: modern technology stack, innovative products and services, attracting top tech talent. Half of US technologists are now familiar with Capital One's work in technology. A brand once defined entirely by consumer credit cards has become a credible technology presence in the rooms where the industry's most important decisions get made.
Capital One's ambitions keep growing, and our role keeps growing with them. What began as a performance marketing mandate has grown into something neither of us had fully anticipated: helping one of America's most recognized consumer brands prove it was also one of its most sophisticated technology companies.
And we're not done yet.
