Monks is looking for a Senior Art Director to take the lead in thinking up digital ads and assets for awesome brands. The position is all about harmonizing speed, style and scale to produce loads of good-looking assets at a steady pace. 

Role & Responsibilities 

  • You’ll create style proposals, sketches, mockups and prototypes to kickstart the design for products, features and new campaigns. 
  • Working for the world’s most beloved brands, you’ll make sure designs are awesome and in line with expectations. Specifically, you will be working with a large Automotive Brand and a client in the Healthcare sector.  
  • You’ll look after the execution of the art direction and help to improve the work by offering new angles, inspiration, best practices and practical solutions. 
  • You’ll help translate creative/client briefs into thorough design briefs. 
  • Pixel perfectness is important, so you’ll safeguard quality at all times. 
  • Working alongside the Creative Director and the team, you’ll make sure our designs and processes are in line with the client’s objectives and expectations.

Requirements (Skill Level)

  • (Some) Automotive industry experience would be great
  • Deep taste level with an appreciation for luxury, precision, and performance aesthetics.
  • (Good or some) understanding of the Australian market, including cultural nuances.
  • Proficiency in design tools (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; Figma; plus familiarity with basic video editing tools such as Premiere Pro or equivalent).
  • Experience crafting social-first content: reels, carousels, short-form videos, static posts; knowledge of platform specs and best practices.
  • Ability to translate strategy into concepts quickly and develop visually compelling mock-ups.
  • Strong typography, color theory, and layout skills; excellent visual storytelling.
  • Comfortable working with PSD and Figma for concepting and layout.
  • Ability to search, curate, and manage assets from DAM (from GM) and stock libraries (Getty, Shutterstock, etc)
  • Gen AI awareness and ability to apply responsibly to ideation and iteration.
  • Proficiency with setting up and preparing Final Artwork for print media and OOH.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with motion design or video editing beyond stills to inform concept direction.
  • Prior work on automotive brands or luxury brands
  • Familiarity with production workflows, asset management, and handoff to production teams.

 

Conceptual (Creative Ideation)

  • Generate fresh, on-brand concepts for social always-on and organic content streams.
  • Develop multiple creative directions that align with our Auto Brand’s voice, product narrative, and Australian market sensibilities.
  • Translate brand strategy into visual storytelling ideas, layouts, and mood boards.
  • Collaborate with copy, strategy, and social teams to ensure concepts meet objectives, audience relevance, and platform nuances.
  • Present concepts clearly to stakeholders, incorporating feedback to refine direction.
  • Use PSD and Figma to develop and present design concepts and layout iterations.

Execution (Design Mock-ups & Layouts)

  • Create design mock-ups and layouts for review (non-final art suitable for iteration).
  • Ensure concepts are visually cohesive across multiple formats and platforms. Meta for Organic and Meta, YT, Linked in and rich media for Always on. 
  • Apply typography, color, composition, and imagery in alignment with Brand’s guidelines.
  • Prepare assets and pre-production specs for production teams or external partners.
  • Maintain craft quality and attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
  • Nice to have: Apply basic video edits to create motion-friendly mock-ups and social references when needed. (generating GIFs, etc)

Asset Sourcing and AI/Tools

  • Proficiency in PSD (Adobe Photoshop) and Figma; comfortable prototyping layouts and visual concepts in both.
  • Familiarity with client’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) system and stock image libraries; ability to search, select, and organize assets that fit  Auto Brand and the Australian context.
  • Basic video editing skills (e.g., trimming, simple edits, pacing) for creating reference assets.
  • Gen AI tool knowledge or experience (e.g., using AI for concept ideation, copy drift, layout generation) and ability to assess output for brand safety and quality.
  • Source suitable artwork and assets from the client’s DAM and licensed stock libraries; ensure asset rights and usage align with project requirements.
